About Us
The idea for SLC Chow began when I moved to Salt Lake after several years living in Finland. I immediately noticed the popularity of food scaping; I've never been to a city where I could see people were producing so much fresh food in their own front yard, it got me excited to learn more. That's when I joined my first CSA, I was completely blown away by the quality of the produce I was getting. Seriously - the tomato game in Helsinki compared to Salt Lake is night and day. As a newbie to Salt Lake, getting more involved in local foods tasted amazing and it helped me feel connected, even when I was having trouble meeting people... thanks, COVID.
I resolved to get even more of my food locally. I couldn't believe I hadn't been shopping local my whole life... but the truth is, it can be a lot of work to find the right places to buy each product, pick the right recipes for each local, seasonal ingredient, and make sure you've planned out the use of all produce so excess ingredients don't go to waste- which can happen all to often.
